Welcome Back!

I would like to welcome back all of our returning families and extend a warm welcome to the 46 new families joining our Holy Spirit Elementary family this fall. I am excited about the new school year and getting to know all of our new families. My staff and I look forward to partnering with you in the academic and spiritual growth of your children. If you have not submitted a copy of your child's birth certificate, baptismal certificate or immunizations yet please upload these items in TADS or scan them to Mary Lou Claussen-mclaussen@ogknights.org. This email will contain a lot of valuable information about the upcoming school year.

 

Our Open House will be held on Monday, August 16th from 5-7 p.m. All families with last names that begin with A-L should plan on attending during the 5-6 p.m. slot and all families with last names that begin with M-Z should plan on attending from 6-7 p.m. All families that are new to Holy Spirit should plan on attending a short orientation in the church dining room at 5:00 p.m. for a new family orientation and may visit their classrooms immediately following the orientation. All families should receive a back to school mailing during the first week of August. Included in this mailing will be a:

  • Welcome letter that identifies if your child is signed up for BSC/ASC, PK and PK Plus.
  • Back to School check off list that includes items that are included in this email
  • A copy of each student's emergency form with the dismissal procedures and parental consent form on the back-(this form should be returned at Open House.)

Parking Lot Procedures

We will be utilizing both entrances (main entrance and south playground entrance) again this year for before school drop off and after school pick up. PK parents will be asked to walk their children to their classrooms. K-2 students will use the main entrance and 3-6 students will use the south playground entrance for both before school and after school. Parking Lot Procedures

Kindergarten and 6th Grade Immunizations

If you have a child entering Kindergarten or 6th grade please refer to the attached handouts outlining the required immunizations.

Special Diet/Food Intolerance/Allergy Action Plan (FORM C) must be completed yearly by your physician if your child has food allergies. Please return this form to the office by Aug. 13th. A link to this form can be found here: Health Services Request Form C. Please note that Holy Spirit Elementary is a peanut free school.

Medical Care Plans

If your child requires a Student Medical Care Plan (Form A) or needs Administration of Medication During the School Day (Form B) these forms need to be dropped off at the school or faxed to 371-1957 by Aug. 16th.

Lunchroom Volunteers

I would invite any parents whose schedule allows them to help us in the lunchroom by serving condiments and sanitizing tables in between lunch periods. If you are interested in being a lunchroom volunteer email Mary Lou at mclaussen@ogknights.org.

Before/After School Care

In your back to school mailing you will have a sheet identifying if you enrolled in either the Before School Care or After School Care program. These enrollments were pulled from TADS when you enrolled. Please look this over and make sure your child/children are correctly enrolled if applicable.

 

Early Dismissal/Extra Care Days

The Bishop O'Gorman Catholic Schools offer care on most days when school is not in session or if there is a scheduled early dismissal day. Families need to pre register for these days a couple weeks prior to the scheduled day for an additional fee. You can find these dates and contracts/deadlines for these days at the following link:

School Lunch Program

School Lunch, including an all-you-can-eat fruit and vegetable bar, will be served every school day by our school lunch partner, Lunchtime Solutions. Information regarding our school lunch program has been sent via email from the Bishop O’Gorman Catholic School President’s Office. If you have not received this email regarding the school lunch program, please contact our school office.

 

Dakota Bowl

The 43rd Annual Bob Burns Dakota Bowl will take place on Saturday, Aug. 28th at McEneaney Field on the campus of O'Gorman High School. Dakota Bowl will be the first game of the season for the O'Gorman Knights. That means registration for the football and cheer camps are really early. The deadline to enroll for the camps is Aug. 16th. Information on the camps can be found at the following link:

Gently Used Uniform Sale

The Holy Spirit uniform closet will be set up in the school foyer after masses the weekends of Aug. 7-8 and 14-15 as well as during our Open House on Aug. 16th.

Past Updates

I hope everyone had a great 4th of July holiday and are enjoying summer. It is hard to believe that the first day of school is only five weeks away. I hope all of our Holy Spirit students are reading and completing my Principal's Summer Reading Challenge if they want to see their principal get slimed when we return to school. If you misplaced the flyer you can grab it from our website at the following link: Principal's Reading Challenge

If you have children entering Kindergarten or 6th grade this fall be sure that all of their required immunizations are updated prior to school starting. Information on these immunizations can be found on our Holy Spirit website under forms in the parent tab.

The 1st Day School Supply program deadline has now passed but you can find our school supply list on our website: School Supply List and Open House

If you are planning on placing an order for school uniforms through Dennis uniform company, you are encouraged to get your orders placed now as I've been told shipping is several weeks out. Holy Spirit Elementary will have a gently used uniform sale after weekend Masses in the coming weeks. I will send out specific dates for the sale once they are confirmed.

Back to School information will be emailed to families during the last week of July or 1st week of August.
